Software A little bit about my favorite software. This is stuff (other than the DTLink products I wrote) that I use almost every day and makes life much easier. NeoPhoto - The photo software I use to create web albums. Of course I'm a little biased because I wrote it. :-) VNC - A free/Open Source remote control application that runs on most operating systems. I use VNC every day so that I can continue working from the comfort of my couch. F-Secure SSH - We secured the DTLink Servers a while ago after a hacker break-in, so it is no longer possible to log in using plain telnet or FTP. Using F-Secure SSH I have secure telnet and ftp access to our servers. POPFile - Finally, a spam filter that actually works! POPFile is a POP3 proxy that sits between your email client and your POP3 mailbox and classifies the mail you get into categories (they call them buckets) that you set up. After a few days of training, POPFile accuracy was already up to 90%, and after a couple of weeks it has just passed 96%. What does this mean? Managing my inbox just got a lot easier. VMware - A great way for testing software under different operating systems. Much easier and more convenient than constantly building and rebuilding a multi-boot machine. Microsoft Visual Studio - My software development environment. Enough said. Mozilla - My email client. I've been using Netscape Mail since 1996, and I like the plain text mailbox format. I finally upgraded to Mozilla when 1.3 came out in order to try the junk mail filtering, but POPFile proved to be a much better junk filter. In any case, Mozilla is still an excellent email and news client that works the way work.
